Ramona Geraldine Spence Flowers Gulley, age 83 of Bowman, Georgia, passed away on April 16, 2013. She was born on July 14, 1929, in Elberton, Georgia to the late William Spence and Louise Faulkner (Spence) Colson. C P Colson was her step-father with whom she lived from age four to adulthood. Ramona was a member of the Elberton Pentecostal Holiness Church for over fifty years. Ramona was married to Frank Robinson “Bud” Flowers, Jr. of Elberton, Billy G. “Bill” Moon of Buckhead, and Herbert Gulley of Bowman. Ramona was a retired bookkeeper, secretary and LPN. She served as church secretary and bookkeeper for First United Methodist Church of Elberton, Pentecostal Holiness Church of Elberton and Beacon Heights Baptist Church of Buckhead and exercised her LPN skills at both Elbert Memorial Hospital and St. Mary’s Hospital in Athens. She enjoyed writing poetry in her spare time. Most of her poems were inspired by her love of the Bible and God’s great promise for us. “Making Melody in Your Heart” was written and published in 2002 , containing her life story and a small sampling of her poetry. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands and her two beloved sons, Phillip “Curtis” Flowers and Frank Robinson “Robby” Flowers, III. She is survived by her daughters and their husbands, Karen and Curtis Phillips of Palm Bay, Florida, Eileen and Jimmy Bowen of Bowman, Georgia; and Robby’s widow, Debbie Flowers. She is survived by her grandchildren, Jeff Flowers of Elberton, Amy Flowers Phillips and husband Joe of Lavonia, Robin Flowers Warren and husband Aaron of Bowman, Curtis M. Flowers of Elberton, Clint Bowen and wife Sarah of Palm Bay, Florida, Mona Bowen Lunsford and husband Jarred of Dewy Rose, Paul Bowen and wife Beverly of Seneca, South Carolina, and Christopher Phillips and wife Marie of Oviedo, Florida. She is survived by her great-grandchildren, Hannah Wade Brown and husband C.J., Mary Grace Lunsford, Erica Phillips, Maeson Flowers, Taylor Phillips, Jax Phillips, Alex Bowen, Wyatt Bowen, Anna Jo Rachel Bowen, and Hadley Bowen. Survivors from her second marriage are her step children, Jim Moon, Robin James, Jerry Moon, Carol Ann Hilsman and Karen Branon of Morgan and Walton Counties. Survivors from her third marriage are her step children Jimmy, Jerry and Denise Gulley of Elberton. Service will be held at Berry Funeral Home on Friday, April 19, at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Lawrence Johnson of Anderson, South Carolina and Pastor Tim Adams of Colbert, Georgia officiating. Viewing will be Friday from 2:00-3:00 p.m. prior to the service. Ramona will be laid to rest beside her beloved sons and their Father at Elmhurst Cemetery. The family is at the home of Jimmy and Eileen Bowen, 3319 Brown’s Bridge Road in Bowman. Flowers are optional and those desiring may make contributions to the American Cancer Society or Alzheimer’s Association. The family wishes to thank the entire staff at Spring Valley Nursing Home for their care of Ramona over the last three years; the Doctors, Nurses and entire staff at Elbert Memorial Hospital and the United Hospice staff for making her last days here on earth one of kindness, comfort and dignity.
