Ray Burnette

Mr. James ‘Ray’ Burnette, 62, of Elberton, passed away on Wednesday, February 22, 2017, at St. Mary’s Hospice House in Watkinsville.

Mr. Burnette was born in Elbert County on April 15, 1954, son of the late James Hubert Burnette and Hollis Ashworth Burnette. He was a graduate of Elbert County High School and a member of Elberton Christian Church. Ray worked in law enforcement at both the Elbert County Sheriff’s Office and Elberton Police Department. He also worked alongside his father at Burnette Granite Company and at J&R Granite Company. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing and horseback riding.

Survivors include his children: Jonathan and Heather Burnette of Winterville, Beth and Kevin Eavenson of Elberton, and Julie Taylor; and several grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at Berry Funeral Home from 6:00-8:00p.m. on Thursday, February 23, 2017. The family is at their respective homes.
