Robert Cary Seymour

November 17, 1963 — March 9, 2022

Robert Cary Seymour

Mr. Robert ‘Cary’ Seymour, age 58, entered into rest on Wednesday, March 9, 2022.

Cary was born in Athens on November 17, 1963, the eldest child born to Robert Alfred Ackerman, Jr. and Carol Lee Greiner. Most of his childhood was spent in Elberton where he was an acolyte and a member of First United Methodist Church. He was a 1982 graduate of Elbert County High School where he was a member of the Chess Team, Key Club, and Mu Alpha Theta.  He furthered his education at the University of Georgia before joining the Navy then serving in the Naval Reserves for a number of years. Cary worked at Elberton Mills and is also fondly remembered as Shift Supervisor at Torrington and a beloved Coach, Referee, and Counselor at Camp Harmony.

He was an avid sports fan. The depth of his knowledge about all sports was astonishing, but his love for the Georgia Bulldogs far exceeded any other team or sport. His charisma and quick wit drew people into his life resulting in many life long cherished friendships. Cary was a naturally gifted writer and enjoyed reading books of all kinds. However, his greatest sense of pride and joy was his son, Brandon. Cary was also anxiously awaiting the arrival of his first grandchild in July.

Survivors include his son, Brandon Cary Seymour and his wife Aaliyha of Elberton; mother, Carol Lee Greiner Seymour of Elberton; siblings: Sissie Herring of Elberton, Carol Ann Lindsey and Bill of Macon, Allen Seymour of Kennesaw, and Lee Pulliam and Brian of Elberton; nephews and nieces: Cody Seymour and Marissa, Lindsay Herring, Ryan Lindsey, Jensen Lindsey, Cameron Seymour, Maylen Pulliam, and Brenna Pulliam; and a host of aunts, uncles and very special cousins.

In addition to his father, Cary was preceded in death by his grandparents: Robert A. Ackerman, Sr. and Frances E. Ackerman, and Larry L. Ford and Virginia Ward Morris Ford.

Cary will lie in state on Friday, March 18, from 10:00a.m.-4:00p.m. at Berry Funeral Home for those wishing to pay their respects and sign the guestbook.

Funeral services celebrating Cary’s life will be held on Saturday, March 19, at 11 o’clock at First United Methodist Church of Elberton with the Rev. Jim McCollough officiating. A time of visitation will be held during a reception in the church fellowship hall immediately following the service. Burial will be in Elmhurst Cemetery.

Flowers are accepted and contributions may be made in his memory to T.J. & Friends Foundation, PO Box 6161, Elberton, GA 30635 or to HeartBound Ministries, PO Box 191703, Atlanta, GA 31119-0703 or online at www.heartboundministries.com.
