Mr. Roy McCannon, 66, of Lincolnton Highway, Elberton, husband of 21 years to the late Ruth ‘Ann’ Smith McCannon, passed away on Friday, January 27, 2023, in Elbert County.


Roy was born in Oglethorpe County on December 20, 1956, son of Jeanette Moniecey Harbert McCannon and the late George Junior McCannon. He as a member of Woodlawn Methodist Church and currently attended Welcome Wesleyan Church. Roy had previously worked at Andrews & Smith Paint & Body Shop as well as in the construction industry. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing.


Survivors, in addition to his mother of Elberton, include his son, Matthew Ryan McCannon of Elberton; siblings: James McCannon of Elberton and Arlene Fleming of Hartwell; and siblings-in-law: Tom Cade and Pam Smith and Mary Toney, both of Elberton.


In addition to his wife and father, he is preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Pat Smith.


The family will receive friends at Welcome Wesleyan Church on Friday, February 3, from 10:00-10:45a.m. with the memorial service follow at 11:00a.m. in the church sanctuary. Rev. Travis Cox will officiate, and burial will be in the Woodlawn United Methodist Church cemetery.
