Sybil Grimes Lunsford

Mrs. Sybil Grimes Lunsford, age 91, of Country Club Road, Elberton, entered into peace and the presence of her Lord on Wednesday, October 19, 2022, at her home.

Mrs. Lunsford was born in Oglethorpe County on June 11, 1931, daughter of the late Rufus Syble Grimes and Ola Estelle Scoggins Grimes. She was a member of Elberton Christian Church and retired from Head Start after 25 years of dedicated service. She was also instrumental in operating the family business, Lunsford Granite Company.

Survivors include her daughters: Barbara L. and George Krolikowski and Myra L. Woodall, all of Elberton; grandchildren: Lauren K. and Chris Walden, Gage and Michelle Krolikowski, Adrien K. and Clint Dickerson, Megan K. and Adam Littleton, Shane Lunsford, and Kaelan W. and Joe Dawson; honorary granddaughter, Katie Roberts Evans; twelve great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Luther Collier “Lump” Lunsford; son, Gary Collier Lunsford; and two infant siblings.

The family extends their sincerest appreciation to Genevieve McLendon for the care and compassion shown to Mrs. Sybil. Her dedication allowed Mrs. Sybil to remain at home during her final years as she wished.

Funeral services celebrating her life will be held on Sunday, October 23, at 2 o’clock in the Memorial Chapel of Berry Funeral Home with the Rev. Tim Adams and the Rev. Greg Jordan officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Hills Memorial Park with Shane Lunsford, Joe Dawson, Clint Dickerson, Greg Frossard, John Frossard, and Chris Walden honored as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 1:00-1:45p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. During other times, the family of Barbara L. Krolikowski will be at Mrs. Lunsford’s home, 1085 Country Club Road, Elberton, and the family of of Myra L. Woodall will be at her home, 1311 Fairfax Circle, Elberton.
