Veal Eugene "Gene" Brown

Mr. Veal Eugene “Gene” Brown, a lifelong resident of Elberton, passed away on his 90th birthday, Saturday, July 30, 2022, at Avery Place Assisted Living in Winterville, surrounded by his family.

Gene was born in Elberton on July 30, 1932, the second of five children of Veal Martin Brown and Bera Carlton Brown. He was a rural letter carrier having retired from the United States Postal Service after 47 years of service. A member of First United Methodist Church of Elberton, Mr. Brown was a former member of First Presbyterian Church of Elberton where he was an ordained elder. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed deer hunting.

Survivors include his wife of 11 years, Ann Williams Lloyd; faithful four legged companion, Buddy Brown; siblings: Geraldine and David Haynes of Arlington, TX, Carolyn Clamp of Elberton, and Martin and Nancy Brown of Elberton; daughter, Elaine and Tommy Eavenson of Elberton; step-children: Kim and Cindy Lloyd of Lavonia, Jenny and David McDade of Douglasville, Kerry and Koy Lloyd of Nicholson, and Renee and Eric Berryman of Hull; grandchildren: Jay and Megan Brown of Sugar Hill, Kristen Brown of Atlanta, Jesse Brown of Dallas, Katie Brown of California, and Matt Easom of Elberton; five great-grandchildren; ten step-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Margaret ‘Joanne’ Walters Brown; son, Mitchell Lee Brown; and sister, Sara Frances Andrews.

Graveside services celebrating Gene’s life will be held on Wednesday, August 3, at 4 o’clock at Forest Hills Memorial Park with the Rev. Doug Hilliard officiating.

The family is at the residence and will receive friends on Tuesday, August 2, from 5:00-7:00p.m. at Berry Funeral Home.
