Virgil Thomas Brown, 72, of 1210 Village Road, Elberton, husband of Charlene Hall Brown, died Saturday morning, March 5, 2011, in the St. Mary's Hospice House. Mr. Brown was born in Elberton, Georgia, July 7, 1938, son of the late Hugh Dorsey and Pauline Frances Moon Brown. He was a member and Deacon of Fork Creek Baptist Church, employed by Keystone Memorials as a sandblaster, and a Little League coach for over 40 years. He retired from the National Guard as a Major after 20 years of service. Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Charlene Hall Brown of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Tammy Brown and Brian Looney of Bowman; sons and daughters-in-law, Scott and Angie Brown of Hartwell and Chad and Julie Purcell Brown of Dewy Rose; two sisters, Melinda B. Dye and Nancy B. and her husband, Adrian Jones, all of Elberton; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and mother-in-law, Jackie Harris of Bowman. Funeral services celebrating his life will be held Monday, March 7, at 2PM in the Fork Creek Baptist Church with Reverend Bill Vaughn officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family is at the home, 1210 Village Road, Elberton, and will receive friends from 12:30-2PM Monday in the Fork Creek Baptist Church fellowship hall just prior to the service. Nephews will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully request donations be made in his honor to the Fork Creek Baptist Church.
