Virginia Lee Mayhue

Mrs. Virginia Lee Ackerly Mayhue, 88, of Elberton, wife of the late William Wilburn Mayhue, passed away on Tuesday, January 28, 2020, at Nancy Hart Nursing Center.

Mrs. Mayhue was born in Wetumka, Oklahoma on December 15, 1931, daughter of the late Roy Ackerly and Pearl Edna Chestier Ackerly. A natural caretaker, she worked as a homemaker and a Certified Nursing Assistant. Mrs. Mayhue was a member of Celebration Outreach Center and a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary at Pulliam-Burton VFW Post 5456.

Survivors include her children: Emma and Frank Gile of Statham, William and Lori Mayhue of Elberton, Richard Earl Craig of Missouri, Albert Eugene Craig of Kansas, Dennis Lee Craig of California, and Zelta Mae House of Illinois; twenty seven grandchildren; seventy three great-grandchildren; seventeen great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her children: Juanita Irene Craig, Patty Jo Perez, and Rita Louise Box.

Funeral services celebrating her life will be held on Saturday, February 1, at 3 o’clock at Celebration Outreach Center with the Rev. Bill Jones officiating. Interment will follow in Elmhurst Cemetery.

The family is at the home of Willie and Lori Mayhue and will receive friends at Celebration Outreach Center from 2:00-2:45p.m. on Saturday prior to the service.

Flowers are accepted and contributions may be made in her memory to the cancer organization of one’s choice.
