Mrs. Virginia Lee Tidwell Reed, 81, of Elberton, Georgia, formerly of Crystal River, Florida, died peacefully on Monday, September 12, 2022, at Avery Place Assisted Living in Winterville, Georgia.

A native of Carlsbad, New Mexico, Virginia was a daughter of the late Virgil L. And Mamie Lee “Sally” Williams Tidwell. She graduated from Carlsbad High School and held a nursing diploma from Shannon School of Nursing in San Angelo, Texas. She met her future husband, Dean Guilbert Reed, at Goodfellow Air Force Base and they have celebrated 59 years of marriage. Mrs. Tidwell was a registered nurse and began her career in Texas. They then traveled the world, first to England, and then worked at the American Embassies in Ankara, Moscow, Berlin, and New Delhi. She was heavily respected in her career and will be remembered for her integrity, knowledge, and compassion.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughters: Angie Rooney and husband Brent of West Linn, Oregon, Pamela Quinn of Annapolis, Maryland, and Dawn Benson and husband Jeff of Elberton, Georgia; beloved grandchildren: Samantha Engel of Columbia, Maryland, Kalin Rooney-Slapper and husband Elliott of Tigard, Oregon, Connor Rooney of Tigard, Oregon, Lauren Benson of Birmingham, Alabama, and Jeffrey Benson, Jr. of Augusta, Georgia.

She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi, a long time leader of the Girl Scouts of America, and a beloved teacher to her family. An avid quilter, Virginia also loved sewing and was an extremely creative soul. She was very loved and will be dearly missed.

A private celebration of life will held at a later date.
