Mr. Douglas Wayne Brown, 70, of Lake Forest Drive, Elberton, husband of Mary Jordan Brown, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 16, 2014, at his residence surrounded by his family. Mr. Brown was born in Elbert County on October 14, 1943, to the late Marvin Leroy and Sadie Harris Brown. Wayne was a member of First Baptist Church of Elberton, Peace Officers Association, and Philomathea #25 Masonic Lodge. He was retired from the City of Elberton Police Department and was a former employee of the Elbert County Sheriff's Office. Mr. Brown enjoyed spending time with his beloved wife, daughters, and grandchildren and was an avid woodworker. Left to cherish his memories are his wife of 47 years, Mary Jordan Brown of the home; daughters and their husbands: Angie B. and Greg Ruff of Winterville, Amy B. and Gary Dixon of Elberton, and Ashley B. and Blake Young of Elberton; grandchildren: Kaylee Dixon, Brandon Dixon, Emerson Brown, Satcher Young, and Nick Ruff; as well as many other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his siblings, Leroy Brown and Catherine Rabb. Funeral services celebrating his life will be held on Wednesday, March 19, at 3:00p.m. in the First Baptist Church of Elberton with the Rev. Ken Whitfield officiating. Mr. Brown will placed in the church at 1:00p.m. to lie in state until the service hour. Interment will follow in Elmhurst Cemetery with Marvin Dye, David Hunt, John Metcalf, Pierce Mize, Darren Scarborough, and Mike Seymour honored as pallbearers. Military honors will be provided by the U.S. Air Force. The family is at the residence, Lake Forest Drive, and will receive friends at Berry Funeral Home from 6:00-8:00p.m. on Tuesday evening. Flowers are optional; memorials may be made in his honor to the Gideon's International or to the charity of one's choice.
