Mr. Marshall Wayne Carter, age 73, of 206 West Tate Street, Elberton, passed away Tuesday evening, August 30, 2011, at his residence with his wife, son, and daughter-in-law by his side. Born in Elbert County, February 10, 1938 he was the only child of the late Walton Carter and Estelle Witcher Carter. He was of the Baptist Faith, a Stonecutter for over 30 years in Elberton's Granite Industry, and served in the Georgia National Guard in Elberton for 12 years. Left to cherish his memories include his wife Lillian Pat Bridges Carter, his sons and daughter-in-law Scott and Kim Carter of Athens, GA, and Jay Thompson of Sandersville, GA, a daughter Dee Thompson of Harrison, GA, seven grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three children Lynn Carter, Susie Thompson Carter, and Jeffery Carter. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at his home for family and close friends with Rev. Joe Glaze officiating. The family has requested in lieu of flowers to please make memorials in his honor to Odyssey Healthcare of Athens, 855 Gaines School Road Suite G, Athens, GA 30605.
