Wendell Martin Fortson, known to his family and friends as "Frog", age 61, of 3390 Calhoun Falls Highway, Elberton, husband of Tammy Johnson Fortson, passed away Friday evening, September 21, 2012, at his residence. Mr. Fortson was born in Elbert County, March 13, 1951, to Jean Brown Fortson Scarborough and the late Joe Bruce Fortson. He was a member of the Elberton Elks Lodge and a retired truck driver from Star Granite Company. Left to cherish his memories are his wife of 34 years, Tammy Johnson Fortson of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Mendy F. and Travis Christian of Elberton; grandchildren, Madelyn Lee Christian and Tait Edward Christian; mother and step-father, Jean and John Scarborough of Elberton; and siblings, Gary Fortson of Atlanta and Wanda Campbell of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Funeral services celebrating his life will be held at 3PM Sunday, September 23, in the Memorial Chapel of Berry Funeral Home with the Rev. Scott Mize officiating. Interment will follow in the Bethlehem United Methodist Church Cemetery with Dean Addison, Marty King, Fred Miller, Sweede Sorenson, Jason Baker, and Ryan Baker honored to serve as pallbearers. Tommy Johnson will serve as an honorary pallbearer. The Fortson family is at the residence, 3390 Calhoun Falls Highway, and will receive friends at the funeral home from 1-2:30PM Sunday prior to the service. Flowers will be accepted.
