Wendell Ray Partain, Sr.

Wendell Ray Partain, Sr., age 79, passed away Wednesday, December 14, 2016 at AnMed Health Medical Center.

Born in Elbert County, GA, he was the son of the late Walton and Reba Edwards Partain. He was a graduate of Elberton High School and Carolina School of Commerce now known as Forrest Junior College with an accounting degree. He retired from Owens Corning Fiberglas after more than 40 years of service in Quality Control. He was a former co-owner of McDougald and Partain Tax Preparation Service. He was currently the owner of Partain Tax Services. Ray was active in so many areas of his life, including, South Carolina Society of Enrolled Agents where he was Past President, South Carolina Tax Council as Past President, National Association of Enrolled Agents, National Association of Tax Professionals, Accredited Tax Advisor, Accredited Tax Preparer, Anderson Federal Credit Union Supervisory Committee from 1983 until 1985, Anderson Federal Credit Union Board of Directors, 1985 until 2016, and Current Chairperson of Anderson Federal Credit Union Board of Directors. He served on the South Carolina Credit Union League Board of Directors as Past Treasurer and served on the Governmental Affairs Committee. Ray also served on the Anderson University Board of Trustees from 2009 until 2016 as Former Finance Committee Chairperson, Former Board Member and Past Chairperson for Anderson County Economic Development Advisory Board, and Anderson Toastmasters where he served as Treasurer. He was also very active in Gideon’s International as a member and Past Treasurer.

His favorite hobbies were entering his convertible Volkswagen and Mini Cooper in various car shows. Ray enjoyed bluegrass music and theater. He loved helping to organize many events including family and high school reunions.

Ray enjoyed many things in life, especially his family. He loved people and never met a stranger. His love for Jesus surpassed everything in life. He was a man of Christ and exhibited this in all he did. He was a member of New Prospect Baptist Church where he served as Deacon, Past President, and a current Sunday School Teacher.

He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Nancy Haynie Partain; his children, Robin Partain Porter and her husband Bob of Napa, CA and Russell Partain of Topeka, KS; a sister, Carolyn Partain Payton, of Anderson, SC; three grandchildren, Lauren Porter, Lindsay Porter, and Travis Porter and his wife Kelle; and two great-grandchildren, Presley Porter and Remy Porter.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son, Wendell Ray Partain, Jr.

The Funeral Service will be held at New Prospect Baptist Church on Monday, December 19, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Dr. Tony Smith and Dr. Rudy Gray officiating. Entombment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.

The family will be at the home and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Sunday, December 18, 2016 from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m.
