Wilbur P. Evans

Mr. Wilbur P. Evans, 82, of Calhoun Falls, SC, husband of Bertie Faye Gary Evans, died Wednesday, November 9, 2022, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Lincolnton, GA on May 26, 1940, son of the late Dono Evans and Janna Clarabell Walker Evans. Mr. Evans was a member of Beulah Baptist Church and a 1958 graduate of Lincolnton High School. He served his country honorably in both the United States Army and National Guard. Mr. Evans was self-employed cutting wood and also worked at the Lake Richard B. Russell Dam and for the Town of Calhoun Falls. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting with his beloved beagles and coon dogs as well as tending to his cattle and mules. Mr. Evans was a lifetime Georgia Bulldog fan.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers; Jimmy Evans, Bobby Evans, and Sammie Evans; and one sister, Juanita Roberson.

Mr. Evans is survived by his wife of over fifty four years, Bertie Faye; sisters: Donna Sue Bolton of North Augusta, SC, Nikki Evans of Tignall, GA, Millie Faye Trammell of Columbia, SC, and Frances Ware of Washington, GA; brothers: Doug Evans of Calhoun Falls, SC and William (Marie) Evans of Simpsonville, SC; daughter, Dedra E. (Eddie) Driver of Abbeville, SC; son, Kevin Jennings of Elberton, GA; daughter, Elizabeth (Barry) Armour of Tignall, GA; son, Jeff Thornton of Tignall, GA; nine grandchildren: Chelsey Driver, Chase Driver, Brittany Jennings, Brittany (Brandon) Wheatley, Bettina Armour, Dylan Armour, Erin (Shelby) Walton, Walker Thornton, and Colby Thornton; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and numerous other relatives and friends.

Wilbur will lie in state at Berry Funeral Home in Elberton, GA on Friday, November 11, from 9:00a.m.-4:30p.m. for those wishing to pay their respects and sign the guestbook.

The family will receive friends at Beulah Baptist Church in Lincoln County on Saturday, November 12, from 1:00-1:45p.m. Funeral services will follow in the church sanctuary at 2:00p.m. Burial will be at Latimer Cemetery in Calhoun Falls, where military honors will be rendered by the United States Army.

The family is at the home, 333 Tugaloo Street, Calhoun Falls, SC.
