Allen George Nicas, 91, of Simpsonville, SC, passed away on October 11, 2023. He was born on August 25, 1932, in Astoria, New York. Allen was a loving and loyal individual who never met a stranger. He had a witty personality and a genuine love for people.

Allen is survived by his daughter, Amanda Nicas Widener, his granddaughter Anna Bunch and her husband Jason, their children Kaitlyn and Luke, his grandson Daniel Widener, and his wife Rebecca, their children Parker and Jake, his granddaughter Elizabeth Hager and her husband Kenny, their children Haylee, Gillen, and Lucas, and his granddaughter Sarah Widener. He was preceded in death by his wife Barbara Hill Nicas, his son George Allen Nicas, his parents George and Kallerroe Nicas, and his sister Joanne Georgeson.


Allen attended Perth Amboy High School in Perth Amboy, NJ, and later pursued higher education at the University of Georgia. He served in the Army from 1955 to 1958, where he made significant contributions to his military associations.


In his professional life, Allen worked in women's retail in Columbus, GA, and served as a city councilman for a term. He then transitioned to work with the Convention and Visitors Bureau before settling in Elberton, GA, as the Economic Developer for Elbert County.  Allen fully believed in Service Above Self, and was a proud Rotarian for 25 years.  


Allen worshipped at Trinity Episcopal Church in Columbus, GA, and later at St. Albans Episcopal Church in Elberton, GA where he served on the Vestry. He found joy in staying active with GEDA (Georgia Economic Developers Association) for many years, actively participating in numerous Chamber of Commerce activities, and was on the board of the Elbert County Library. He loved music and sports and enjoyed all UGA had to offer.


A service to celebrate Allen's life will be held at St. Alban's Episcopal Church in Elberton, GA, on Saturday, November 18, 2023, at 11:00 a.m.
