Alvin C. York, of Ila, GA passed away on October 8th, 2026, surrounded by his children.

Born February 27th, 1941 in Pickens, SC he was the son of the late James and Mary York.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by Loretta Owens York and his daughters, Angela Hart and Arlene Youngblood, brothers Junior, Thomas, Calvin, Wayne and sisters Lois, Lori, Ruby.

Survivors include his children Steuart York (Debra) of Royston, Andrea Dickens (Richard) of Crawford, Anita Compton (Joe) of Hull, Asaza Poole (Micheal) of Ila, and Anthony York (Nicky) of Carnesville, Dinnie Purdue, brother Woodrow and sisters Dolly, Elosie, Barbra, Erlene. He was also blessed with 18 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

He was a Private in the United States Marine Corps. He spent his later years with his grandchildren, helping with the touchdown club for Madison County Red Raiders. The last few years of his life he spent having cook outs, fishing and hunting with his children and grand-kids.

Funeral services will be announced at a later date.

Berry Funeral Home and Crematory of Elberton is assisting the family of Alvin C. York.
