Mrs. Barbara ‘Ann’ Capes Graham, 88, of Winterville, wife of 62 years to the late Bobby Edward Graham, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Athens following a sudden illness.
Mrs. Graham was born at home in the Glade Community of Oglethorpe County on May 20, 1938, daughter of the late Leonard Grady Capes and Annie Lou Holcomb Capes. She was a 1956 graduate of Oglethorpe County High School and grew up as a member of Sandy Cross Baptist Church. Ann later moved her letter to Whitehall Baptist Church where she was presently a member.
She was the owner/operator of Sandy Cross Grocery for many years and later worked in the cafeteria at Oglethorpe County High School. Affectionatly known as “Granny Ann”, she was her grandchildren’s biggest cheerleader - never missing an opportunity to support them in any of their endeavors, pick them up from school, or attend their ballgames.
Surviving are her children: Russell Edward “Rusty” Graham and Wanda of Sandy Cross and Tami Ann Reed and Allen of Colbert; sister, Jeanette Paul of Carlton; grandchildren: Mandy Wilkins and Chad, Dustin Graham and Kayla, Devin Graham, and Mitchell Reed and Courtland; eight great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews: Martha Carol Reynolds, Gary Capes, Pam Phillips, and Ben Eberhart.
Honoring Ann’s request, a simple graveside service will be held on Friday, August 28, at 11:00a.m. in the Sandy Cross Cemetery, officiated by the Rev. Jimmy Edwards. The family will greet friends immediately following the service.
Flowers are accepted, and contributions may be made in her memory to Sandy Cross Cemetery Fund, 791 Lexington-Carlton Road, Carlton, GA 30627 or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
