Mrs. Betty ‘Sue’ Gunter Hall, 77, of Elberton, GA, passed away on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at AnMed Health Medical Center in Anderson, SC, after suffering a sudden illness three days prior. In true Sue fashion, even in death, she was able to help her fellow man through the gift of organ, eye, and tissue donation.
Sue was born in Stephens County, GA on September 18, 1948, and graduated from White County High School in Cleveland, GA. A hardworking woman, she worked in many different jobs. Sue is most remembered as a bookkeeper and as a sales representative in the granite industry. She also worked alongside her dear friend, Beth Hodges, at Soft Furnishings where she sewed and helped make window coverings and many other home accessories.
Sue was devoted to her family, delighting herself in being the best “Mom” and “Grandmama” she could be. Her family knew without a shadow of a doubt she was their biggest cheerleader and she was always there for them. Second to her family was her love of the outdoors. She prided herself in keeping her yards in immaculate condition, tending to her many flowers and doing all of her yard work by herself. Sue enjoyed thrifting, never passing up an opportunity to shop at Goodwill, Salvation Army, or a good yard sale. Later in life, despite hating boats and water, she discovered her love of cruising and did so often with her beloved sister.
Survivors include her sons: Jonathan Cale Pruitt and Christine of Savannah, GA and Randolph Edward “Randy” Pruitt and Kerri of Cleveland, GA; grandsons: Jake Pruitt and Haley of Elberton, GA and Stephen Pruitt of Savannah, GA; special friend, Darrell McDaniel of Elberton, GA; siblings: Earl Gunter of Cleveland, GA, Sandra Ambrose of Easley, SC, and Jerry Gunter of Cleveland, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Sue is preceded in death by her parents, Ray Allen Gunter and Grovie Illa Frady Gunter; husband, Benjamin Douglas Hall; and siblings: Royce Gunter, Barbara Savage, Brenda Abernathy, Mary Fortenberry, and Jackie Gunter.
In keeping with Sue’s request, there will be no formal service. A private celebration of her life will be held with family and close friends at a late date.
If desired, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the American Heart Association, Post Office Box 840692, Dallas, TX 75284-0692.
When you remember Sue, share a smile and a hug just as she so often did, or do a good deed in her honor.
