Betty Jo Scarborough Haynes

Mrs. Betty Jo Scarborough Haynes, 88, of Elberton, wife of 36 years to the late Walton Atherton "Salt" Haynes, passed away peacefully on Tuesday evening, August 4, 2026, at her residence.

Betty was born in Elberton on May 5, 1938, was a graduate of Elberton High School, and grew up attending Flatwoods Pentecostal Holiness Church. She was a homemaker and worked in the family business, Haynes Sandblasting. Her favorite pastime was working in her yards, cutting grass, and tending to her many flowers. Betty was an excellent mother and grandmother who loved her family dearly. 

She is survived by her children: Randy Haynes and Trena Haynes, both of Elberton; grandson, Erik Haynes of Gainesville; brother, Cecil and Mary Scarborough of Elberton; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives. 

In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her parents, Bummie and Willamette Brown Scarborough; grandson, Derek Haynes; and siblings: Eugene Scarborough, Ann Smith, and Morris Scarborough. 

At Betty's request, no services will be held. She will be laid to rest privately alongside her husband in Elmhurst Cemetery.
