Bobbie Sue Martin Kidd

Mrs. Bobbie Sue Martin Kidd entered into rest on Saturday, September 30, 2023, at her residence in Elberton, just two days prior to her 91st birthday. Her last days were spent surrounded by family and friends that she loved so dearly.

She was born in Elberton on October 2, 1932, the oldest of two children of Robert Lee Martin and Cynthia Louise Allgood Martin. Except for a brief stint in Baltimore, MD during her childhood and WWII while her parents were working, she lived all of her life in Elbert County where she graduated from Nancy Hart High School.

The faith that was instilled in her from a young age at Fortsonia Baptist Church carried her throughout her almost 91 years. She later became a member of Deep Creek Baptist Church. Bobbie Sue never missed an opportunity to pray for those that she loved.

Bobbie Sue was a talented seamstress who worked in various sewing plants throughout her life, and was also the owner/operator of Suzy Sews in Fortsonia. She used her sewing talents to spread love as she made most of her daughters’ clothing, including a wedding dress. Bobbie Sue later worked as an activities director at Heardmont, Spring Valley, and Nancy Hart Nursing Homes, as well as at Magnolia Estates. She was also a talented cake baker who made many wedding cakes, never accepting payment except to cover the cost of ingredients.

She had a green thumb that would make anyone jealous - being able to grow and arrange flowers, as well as keeping one of the most beautiful vegetable gardens in the county. Her feisty spirit and wittiness was sure to keep one in laugher. You never knew what she was going to say, but you could count on it being humorous and truthful, often times brutally truthful.

Above all, Grandma Bobbie Sue loved her family dearly. They were her pride and joy and she was extremely proud of each and every one of them.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 30 years, Bobby Alvin Wilson; husband of 41 years, Roy Jeptha Kidd; son-in-law, Jesse Michael “Mike” Baston; and brother and sister-in-law, William Edward “Buddy” and Judy Martin.

She is survived by her two daughters: Victoria Ann Baston and Cynthia Nell Adams and her husband Rusty, all of Elberton; grandsons and their wives: Michael O’Neal Baston and Sarah House Baston, Bobby Lee Baston and Britley Mercer Baston, Mark Wilson Adams and Katy Baker Adams, Stephen Patrick “Rick” Adams and Leanna Padgett Adams, and David Paul Baston and Jodie Wilhite Baston, all of Elberton; great-grandchildren: Mallory, Sydney, Mason, Garrett, Emmie, Kendall, Willow, Tucker, Devon, Peyton, Carson, Lawson, Landen, Maddox, Isabella, Cody, and Cassidy; great-great-grandchildren: Hadlee, Easton, and Ayden; and a host of other relatives and friends.

After her marriage to Roy, Bobbie Sue gained four children that she loved as her own: Bill Kidd of Elberton, Carol Lunceford of Dewy Rose, Joan and David Gunter of Dewy Rose, and Allen Kidd of Dewy Rose; and their respective families.

The family is at their respective homes and will receive friends on Tuesday, October 3, from 6:00-8:00p.m. at Berry Funeral Home.

Funeral services celebrating Bobbie Sue’s life will be held on Wednesday, October 4, at 4:00p.m. at Fortsonia Baptist Church with the Revs. Bobby Baston and Tim Adams officiating. Bobbie Sue will be placed in the church at 3:00p.m. The service will be live-streamed via the Fortsonia Baptist Church facebook page.

Interment will follow in Forest Hills Memorial Park. Rev. Andrew Danals will officiate the graveside service and Mason Baston, Garrett Baston, Tucker Baston, Peyton Adams, Carson Adams, Lawson Adams, Landen Adams, Maddox Adams, Cody James, and Drew Lunceford are honored to serve as pallbearers.

The family wishes to extend their sincerest appreciate to Bobbie Sue’s caregivers: Anne Dye, Tammy Lunsford, Lizzie Tate, Jennifer Kantala, Angela Turman Eaves, Sara Blackwell, Sakeeta Hayes, Ann Jones, Bessie Gartrell, and Lee Davis who will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Flowers are accepted and contributions may be made in her memory to Fortsonia Baptist Church Missions Fund, 2616 Washington Highway, Elberton, GA 30635.
