Candler Gene Brown

Mr. Candler ‘Gene’ Brown, 66, of Lexington Highway, Elberton, husband of 39 years to Myrtle ‘Faye’ Mitchell Brown, passed away on Monday, November 21, 2022, at his residence.

Gene was born in Comer on March 22, 1956, son of the late Candler Jefferson “Shine” Brown and Isa Mae Baxter Brown. He retired from the granite industry where he worked as a polisher for many years. “Pops”, as he was known to his family, was happiest while spending time with his family, and looked forward to gathering around the dinner table with them every chance he got. He enjoyed attending auctions, fishing, hunting, and was almost “always right!”

Survivors, in addition to his wife Faye, include his daughters: Shirley Thurmond and Jackson Compton of Elberton and Jackie Brown Price of Elberton; son-in-law, Ray Price of Washington; sisters: Florine Royston of Royston and Janie Ruth Duvall of Elberton; grandchildren: Candler Price and Kayla Stone, Tyson Price, and Denver Thurmond; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

In addition to his parents, Gene is preceded in death by his siblings: Coline Brown and James E. Brown.

Funeral services celebrating Mr. Brown’s life will be held on Saturday, November 26, at 2 o’clock at River of Life Church in Hartwell. Rev. Ken Buffington will officiate, and burial will follow at Vineyards Creek Baptist Church cemetery in Comer. Gene will be placed in the church on Saturday at 1 o’clock.

The family is at the residence and will receive friends on Friday, November 25, from 6:00-8:00p.m. at Berry Funeral Home.
