Carol Joyce Partridge Hatley

Mrs. Carol ‘Joyce’ Partridge Hatley, 80, wife of James Lewis “Jim” Hatley, Jr., passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 17, 2023, at her residence on Sherard Street in Calhoun Falls, SC.

She was born in Calhoun Falls, SC on March 1, 1943, daughter of the late Curtis Chester Partridge and Etta Elizabeth Wideman Partridge. Aside from working in various sewing plants for a brief time, Joyce was a stay at home mother and house wife. She was a member of Northside Baptist Church in Calhoun Falls, SC.

Joyce started each morning with a hot cup of coffee in her prized Georgia Bulldog mug accompanied by two Oreos. Although having lived most of her life in Clemson and Gamecock territory, she was an avid Georgia Bulldog fan. Joyce loved cheering on her bulldogs and made sure to accessorize with Georgia clothing and jewelry on game day. Never one to stay idle, she was a skilled woodworker who especially enjoyed making yard art. Joyce was an avid reader and crocheter who made numerous afghan blankets for her family and friends. Her collection of tea cups, clowns, and vintage people statues is second to none. Joyce and Jim were quite the pair, and you very rarely saw one without the other.

Surviving, in addition to Jim, her husband of 24 years, are her son and daughter-in-law, Jason Edward Driver and Shelby Cash of Hull, GA; grandchildren: Bellamie Lynn Driver of Hull, GA, Waylon Thomas Lee Driver of Hull, GA, Darren Ashley of Calhoun Falls, SC, and Bryson Ashley of Calhoun Falls, SC; sisters: Billie Powell of Southport, NC and Eunice Medlin of Iva, SC; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her sons: Michael Derrick Wadlington and Stacy Thomas Driver; and brothers: Curtis Partridge and Douglas Partridge.

A time of visitation celebrating Joyce’s life will be held on Friday, June 23, from 6:00-8:00p.m. at Berry Funeral Home, 1265 Washington Highway, Elberton, GA. At other times the family will be at the residence. Burial will be private at Deep Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Dewy Rose, GA.
