Ms. Carol Lee Greiner Seymour, 80, of Elberton, passed away on Monday, November 27, 2023, at Magnolia Estates.
Born in Savannah on August 27, 1943, Carol moved to Atlanta at the age of 8 after her father’s untimely death. She was proud to have grown up in Atlanta where she graduated from Henry Grady High School in 1961. Following high school graduation, she moved to Athens to attend her beloved University of Georgia where she was a proud member of Kappa Alpha Theta.
After starting her family and living in Athens, Atlanta, and Ohio, the move to Elberton in 1973 allowed Carol to truly find “home.” Quickly immersing herself into the community, she was honored to be named 1977 Elbert County Young Mother of the Year. Carol was extremely community minded and always willing to organize a fundraiser, serve as a Little League Coach, and work with the True Blue Auxiliary. She hosted Super Bowl Parties at the Elberton Country Club for many years and was a member of Beta Sigma Phi.
Carol was a dedicated member of First United Methodist Church of Elberton where she served on the Altar Guild, Pastor Parish Committee, and various other committees. She was a member of the church’s Mary Freeman Sunday school class and looked forward to their weekly classes and monthly dinner meetings.
Described as a “Southern Fire Cracker,” Carol was never ashamed of her opinion and stood strong in her beliefs. She learned very early what it was like to be an independent mother, and worked hard to accomplish her goals and make sure her children had everything they needed. She was the owner/operator of Carol Seymour Sales where she sold granite for many years, and later in life was an accomplished real estate agent having worked for Landmark Realty.
Always a socialite, Carol had a special love for Georgia football and enjoyed attending many games and hosting tailgate parties. She looked forward to visiting with her Thursday night dinner club and her bridge group that met each month. Her happy place was anywhere with sand, sun, and saltwater, but she had a special love of trips to Tybee and Hilton Head Islands. Carol was an avid collector of various items, but her true therapy was spending time digging in the dirt. She prided herself in taking care of her yard and flowers, and kept her corner of S. Thomas and Edwards Streets in immaculate condition.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Cary William Greiner, Virginia Warde Morris Greiner Ford, and Larry Ford; son, Robert Cary Seymour; and sister, Virginia Ann Greiner Montague.
Surviving are her children: Sissie Herring of Elberton, Carol Ann and Bill Lindsey of Macon, Allen Seymour of Kennesaw, and Lee and Brian Pulliam of Elberton; grandchildren, who lovingly referred to her as “Nana”: Brandon and Aaliyha Seymour, Cody and Marissa Seymour, Lindsay Herring, 1LT Ryan Lindsey, US Army, Jensen Lindsey, Cameron Seymour, Maylen Pulliam, and Brenna Pulliam; and great-grandchildren: Zariah Seymour and Micah Seymour and special four-legged companion, Murphy.
The family is at the residence of Sissie Herring, 1682 Springfield Drive, Elberton, and will receive friends on Wednesday, November 29, from 5:00-7:00p.m. at Berry Funeral Home.
Funeral services celebrating Carol's life will be held on Thursday, November 30, at 11:00a.m. at First United Methodist Church of Elberton with the Revs. Kirk Bozeman and Jim McCollough officiating. Carol will be placed in the church at 10:00a.m. Interment will be in Elmhurst Cemetery.
Flowers are accepted and contributions may be made in her memory to First United Methodist Church of Elberton, 132 E. Church Street, Elberton, GA 30635.
The family wishes to extend their sincerest appreciation to Patricia “Pig” Fleming, the staff of Magnolia Estates, and Bristol Hospice.
