Charles "Charlie" Elrod

Charles (Charlie) Gilmer Elrod, Sr, 78 passed peacefully on August 16, 2018 at home in Athens, GA after fighting years of illnesses. Charles was born on June 17, 1940 in Athens, GA to Wilton Dorsey Gilmer and Frances Huff Gilmer. After the passing of his mother Charles was adopted by his Uncle, Alcie Taylor Elrod and Aunt Erma Gilmer Elrod and cared for by Aunt Martha Susan Gilmer. Charles is survived by his sister, Mary Gilmer Duty, brothers Jimmy Wilton Gilmer and William Keith Gilmer. Surviving children Janice Elrod Jordan, spouse Mike Jordan, Charles Gilmer Elrod, Jr., Michael Rosser, Susan Elrod Pruitt, spouse Cory Pruitt, Ronny Kinney, spouse Darenda Kinney, 9 Grandchildren, 5 Great Grandchildren. Also surviving special family friends Nancy Hunt, Susan Hanson.

Charles’s love of nature was reflected in his photography. He also enjoyed woodworking and flying airplanes. Charles was a member of Young Harris Methodist Church. He was retired from Athens Clarke County Facilities Management.

The family would like to offer the staff of Bridgeway Hospice our gratitude for the loving care our father received the last days of his life.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 25, 2018 11:00 am at Johnson Drive Baptist Church 145 Johnson Drive, Athens, GA 30605. Pastor Anthony Watts will be officiating the service. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am prior to the service.
