Charles Emerson White, Jr.

Mr. Charles Emerson White, Jr., 82, of Danielsville, husband of Frances Bridges White, passed away on Saturday, July 4, 2026, at Piedmont Athens Regional Hospital surrounded by his family.

Charles was born at home in Carlton, Madison County, on September 15, 1943, son of the late Charles Emerson White, Sr. and Mamie Elizabeth Amason White Matthews. He was a 1961 graduate of Madison County High School and a member of Carlton Baptist Church.

Charles held multiple jobs, ranging from a bus driver at the University of Georgia, to Reliance Electric Company, to a poultry farmer before going into business for himself. As an entrepreneur, he owned several businesses including Mr. Transmission, Music Exchange, and ultimately retiring from Quality Trophies.

Charles was a member of the Athens-Clarke County Community Police Academy Alumni Association and served the Boy Scouts of America as a Unit Commissioner. He enjoyed tracing his family genealogy and was a proud collector of Coca-Cola Memorabilia. Always one to enjoy visiting with his friends and catching up on the latest news, Charles cherished the times he spent with his McDonald’s and Car Lot Coffee Clubs.

Along with his wife of 61 years, Frances, he is survived by his children and their spouses: Chuck and Stacey White of Birmingham, AL and Christy and Chris Coile of Colbert; grandchildren, who affectionately called him “Papa”: Caitlyn White, Matthew White, Rachel White, Cody Coile and his wife Chandler, and Clayton Coile; and other relatives.

Charles is preceded in death by his parents; step-father, Eugene Matthews; and siblings: Jackie Hale, Hampton White, Maurice Mathews, Jack Mathews, Peter Mathews, and Linda Hall.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, July 11, 2026, from 9:00a.m. until 10:45a.m. at Berry Funeral Home. Funeral services, officiated by Pastor Sean Thomas, will follow at 11:00a.m. in the funeral home chapel. A brief graveside service will follow in the Carlton Cemetery.
