Chester Allen "Buddy" Smith

Mr. Chester Allen “Buddy” Smith, 80, of Bowman, GA passed away on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at the Rainey Hospice House in Anderson, SC.

Mr. Smith was born in Vanna, GA on January 9, 1946, son of the late James Herbert and Cathryn Hart Smith, and brother to the late Judy Brannon and infant Linda Kay Smith. He proudly served his country in the United States Army, completing three tours in Vietnam and was also a lifelong member of the Royston VFW who took great pride in supporting his fellow veterans.

Buddy spent 33 years serving his community as a paramedic. Taking care of others wasn't just his job, it was who he was. If someone needed help, he was there without hesitation. He never met a stranger and had a one-of-a-kind sense of humor that could make just about anyone laugh. Whether he was telling a story or simply making someone smile, he had a way of bringing joy to those around him. He will be remembered for his kind heart, his willingness to help others, and the laughter he shared with everyone who knew him.

Survivors include his wife, who he shared 50 wonderful years of marriage with, Rebecca “Becky” Mae Staples Smith; daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Ryan Grigsby of Easley, SC; and granddaughters, Reagan and Mallory Grigsby.

A celebration of Buddy’s life will be held in the Pruitt Funeral Home Chapel at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 8, 2026. The family will receive friends immediately following the service on Saturday afternoon. During other times, the family will be at his home.
