Christie Partain Mattison

Christie Partain Mattison, born on May 8, 1968, entered her heavenly home on May 7, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer, most recently at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Christie’s love of a good celebration lives on. One day into her heavenly home, she celebrated her birthday.

Christie is the beloved daughter of Jim and Pat Partain and the sister of Cynthia (“Cindy”) Partain Moore. She grew up in Elberton, Georgia, graduating from Elbert County High School in 1986. She was a talented athlete, playing basketball on scholarship at Truett McConnell University and Lander University. She was later a graduate assistant for women’s basketball at Georgia Southern University.

She began her teaching career as a health and physical education teacher at Lincoln County High, where she coached the girls’ basketball and softball teams. She later became an administrator at Lincoln County Elementary and Harlem Middle. After her retirement from education, she began working in ministry with the Greater Augusta Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA). Among her many roles, she most recently served as camp director at FCA Running Camp. Her career is marked by the impact she made on countless students, players, colleagues, and coaches.

Christie’s greatest joy in life was her family. She married her husband, Guil Mattison, in 1994 at Lincolnton Baptist Church. She was an exceptional and loving mother to her sons, Thomas and James. She valued the input of her sister, Cindy, like no other. Her boys often joked about any decision made with the line: “Have you called Cindy?”

Her passing leaves a void for all who knew her, yet we rejoice knowing she is pain-free and has met her Lord and Savior face to face.

Please join her family in celebrating her life and legacy on Saturday, May 10th at 11 AM at the Lincoln County High School Gymnasium. Her family will receive visitors the hour prior to the service at 10 AM in the Middle School Lobby.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Greater Augusta FCA P.O. Box 204168 Augusta, GA 30917, where a summer camp scholarship fund to honor Christie’s work with FCA will be established. In the memo portion of the check or donation, add “Christie Mattison Camp Scholarship Fund.”
