Edna Rebecca Tate Locke

Mrs. Edna Rebecca “Becky” Tate Locke, 81, of Elberton, passed away on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at Piedmont Athens Regional Hospital.

Mrs. Locke was born in Elberton on August 2, 1944, daughter of the late George Richard Tate and Edna Lee Lyle Tate. She was a 1962 graduate of Elberton High School and graduated from banking school, working in banking all of her career. Becky was a lifelong member of Eliam United Methodist Church.

Surviving are her brother and sister-in-law, G.L. “Buddy” and Sandra Yeargin Tate of Atlanta; and nieces Cindy Algood Yeargin of Elberton and Kimberly Tate-Nuwar of Atlanta; nephew, Tracy Tate of Toccia; nephews-in-law: Tony Dickerson and Jeff Smith, both of Elberton; and a host of great and great-great-nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Benny Nelson Locke; sister and brother-in-law, Clara Mae and Kenneth Allgood; nephew, Brian Allgood; and nieces: Pamela Allgood Dickerson and Deborah Allgood Smith.Becky never met a stranger when she worked at First National Bank, which is now Pinnacle/Vallant. Her kidding nature and smile invited those coming to the bank to talk to her even if they had no business in the loan department. After a successful career in banking in Florida, she retired and moved back to Elberton to be closer to family.

She was a loving aunt and sister, who also loved her four-legged animals of all types. She was beloved by so many animals and helped them in their time of need, taking in innumerable strays over the years. Besides taking care of animals, Becky was an avid crafter, photographer, and antique collector with Nelson. She will be remembered for her Pontiac GTO and Corvette, which she loved to drive.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 26, from 2:00p.m. until 2:45p.m. at Berry Funeral Home. Funeral services, officiated by the Rev. Bill Lowe, will follow at 3:00p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Burial, alongside her parents, will be in Forest Hills Memorial Park.

Flowers are accepted, and contributions may be made in her memory to Eliam United Methodist Church, Post Office Box 6413, Elberton, GA 30635.

The family would like to thank the staff of Pruitt Spring Valley for their compassion and care for the last four years, and Piedmont Compassus Hospice Care for Becky’s last days.
