Ms. Ellen Capps of Elberton, passed peacefully on January 13, 2023. She succumbed to complications from her lung cancer with family at her side.
Ms. Capps was born in Lafayette, Louisiana on October 13, 1957, the second of three children born to Raymond Jackson Brown Jr. and Betty Fay Roberts Brown. Ms. Capps served the state of Georgia for over 22 years in her work as a court specialist, spending the last decade working in the Elberton office of the Georgia Department of Community Supervision.
A woman of great faith, Ms. Capps was devout member of Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church. She was well known and loved throughout the Elberton community and served the community through volunteer work until her illness made it necessary to move to be with her younger sister. She served as an officer in the local American Legion Auxiliary, Unit 14.
Ms. Capps was a generous and devoted sister, aunt, and great aunt. Her home was always filled with the love and laughter of family and friends.
Ms. Capps was preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include her sisters Fay Hunczak of Lilburn, Georgia and Allison Johnson of New Bern, North Carolina; nieces and nephews: Stephanie Medina Sean Hunczak, Jeffrey Perry, Chelsea Walker and Raymond Burnes; as well as an uncle, aunts, and cousins.
Memorial services celebrating Ellen’s life will be held at Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Elberton on Saturday, February 4 at 1:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, Mrs. Capp’s family requests that donations be made in her honor to Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, American Cancer Society, Elbert County Humane Society or American Legion Auxiliary, Unit 14.
