Mr. Eugene Hughes was born on March 25, 1953, to the late John Henry Hughes and Alice Sue Allen Hughes. He departed this life on Friday, February 5, 2021, after a lengthy illness.

He retired from the Elbert County School System after 40 plus years of service. At an early age Eugene joined Oak Grove Baptist Church.

He leaves to cherish his memory: a wife, Beverly Hardy Hughes of Atlanta, GA; five children, Jerome (Tia) Hughes, Lajarvis (Mimi) Hughes, Reneathia Carpenter all of Elberton, GA, Rafel Williams of New York, and Tameika Hughes Rhodes of Atlanta, GA; siblings, Bobbie Sue Allen, Phyllis Lewis, Johnny Hughes, Donnie (Patricia) Hughes, and Ronnie (Shirley) Hughes, all of Elberton, GA; sister-in-law, Adell Hughes of Elberton, GA; special aunt, Everlena Alexander of Kansas City, MO; fifteen grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews, special friend, special niece.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his sister, Ophelia Williams; brothers, Phillip Hughes, Willie James Hughes, and Walter Lewis Hughes.

Funeral services to celebrate Eugene’s life will be held 2PM, Saturday, February 13, 2021, in the Memorial Chapel of Berry Funeral Home with Rev. H.T. Butler and Rev. Mac Hughes officiating.

Eugene will lie in state from 10AM to 5PM Friday, February 12, at Berry Funeral Home for those wishing to pay their respects and sign the guestbook.

Berry Funeral Home & Crematory of Elberton is in charge of the funeral arrangements for Mr. Eugene Hughes.
