Eugene Harrison "Gene" Wallace

Mr. Eugene Harrison “Gene” Wallace, 98, of Highland Drive, Elberton, husband of 74 years to the late Martha ‘Lucy’ Truitt Wallace, passed away on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at PruittHealth at Spring Valley.

Mr. Wallace was born in Canon on April 23, 1927, son of the late Hustler Wallace and Eunice Flynn Wallace. He was a proud veteran, having served his country in the United States Navy. Following his Navy discharge, Gene continue serving his country in the Army National Guard.

He worked in the granite industry his entire life, retiring at the age of 92 as a stone cutter. Gene was a founding member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Survivors include his son, Roger Wallace and his wife Tonia of Elberton; grandchildren: Mark Wallace and his wife Leslie, Melinda Oglesby and her husband James, Amy Strong and her husband Spencer, and Maeson Flowers; great-grandchildren: Alex Oglesby, Mary Claire Wallace, Jordan Oglesby, Emaleigh Oglesby, Lawson Strong, and Kambrie Rose; brother, Lawrence Wallace of Bowman; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Along with his wife and parents, he is preceded in death by two daughters, Chris Rice and her husband Stanley and Elizabeth Wallace; granddaughter, Heather Nicole Purcell; and siblings: Joe Brown Wallace, Troy Wallace, Ezra Wallace, and Sara Lee Butler.

At Mr. Gene’s request, a simple graveside service will be conducted on Saturday, April 18, at 10:00a.m. at Elmhurst Cemetery. Rev. Fred Jones will officiate, and military honors will be rendered by the U.S. Navy.
