Eugenia Adele Fortson Cleveland

Mrs. Eugenia ‘Adele’ Fortson Cleveland died at her home in Dunwoody, Georgia on June 4, 2021, at the age of 94. She was the widow of King David Cleveland, and was preceded in death by an infant son, Kennis.

A native of Elberton, Mrs. Cleveland was a daughter of the late Henry Clay Fortson and Floyce Maxwell Fortson. After graduating high school, she worked as a legal secretary before moving to Atlanta. Along with her family, she was baptized at Doves Creek Baptist Church. After relocating to Atlanta, she and her husband were charter members of Wieuca Road Baptist Church where she held many roles. She enjoyed her ladies lunches and bridge groups. She was an avid gardener and baker, perfecting “Gammy” rolls and pound cakes. Most of all she was the beloved Gammy to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her children: Michele and William Saville of Cumming, Kevin and Carol Cleveland of Atlanta, Vicki and Randy Evans of Bigfork, MT, and Cindy Pound, wife of the late William, of Blairsville; grandchildren: Mary Saville, King Saville, Kate Hawkins, Sharon Saville, Adam Cleveland, Eli Cleveland, Sawyer Evans, Bailey Evans, Cameron Small, and Lauren Orlando; and ten great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by her siblings: Leonard Clay Fortson, Marion Callaway Fortson, Weymon Johnson Fortson, Wilton Thomas Fortson, and Elizabeth Floyce Fortson Dye.

Graveside services celebrating her life will be held on Tuesday, June 8, at 11 o’clock at Doves Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with Bill Givens officiating.
