Gwendolyn Hall Herring Turner

Mrs. Gwendolyn Hall "Gwen" Herring Turner, 89, of Crestview Drive, Elberton, wife of 50 years to the late Jerry Mack Turner, passed away on Friday, June 5, 2026, at Elbert Memorial Hospital.

Gwen was born in Elbert County on August 24, 1936, daughter of the late Robert Clinton Herring and Ruth Irene Hall Herring. She was a 1954 graduate of Elbert County High School and furthered her education at a business school in Atlanta. While in Atlanta, Gwen worked in the banking industry and later returned to Elberton where she worked at Elberton Mills and Granite Sales and Supply. An adept business woman, she owned for many years Headquarters Salon and was instrumental in the success of the family businesses, Turner Concrete and Quality Block.

Gwen was a longtime, faithful member of Rock Branch Baptist Church where she sang alto in the choir. She enjoyed playing piano at home and was an avid shopper. Second to her family, Gwen’s most favorite hobby was traveling, with a special love of the Tennessee mountains. The condo in Pigeon Forge became her sanctuary and happy place, where many hours were spent with friends and family alike.

Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Stephen Banks of Elberton; daughter-in-law, Melinda Turner of Elberton; sister, Linda Tucker of Hartwell; grandchildren and their spouses: Mark Turner, Amber and Ric Dixon, Turner and Meggie Banks, Eliza and Colin Glover, and Brooks Banks; great-grandchildren: Beckett Dixon and Briggs Dixon; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Along with her husband and parents, Gwen is preceded in death by her son, Greggory Mark Turner, Sr.; and son and daughter-in-law, Brian Jerry and Darlene Turner.

The family will receive friends on Monday, June 8, from 12:00p.m. until 1:30p.m. at Elberton Christian Church. Funeral services, officiated by the Rev. Kevin Vaughn, will follow at 2:00p.m. in the church sanctuary. Burial will be in the Rock Branch Baptist Church cemetery alongside her husband and sons. Pallbearers will include Ted Ankerich, Clint Carter, Curt Carter, Steve Craft, Tony Dickerson, and Zeno Thomas.

The family is at the home of Stephen & Kathy Banks, 1767 Calhoun Falls Highway, Elberton.

Flowers are accepted and contributions may be made in her memory to the Building Fund of Rock Branch Baptist Church, 2150 Coldwater Road, Elberton, GA 30635.

The family wishes to extend their sincerest appreciation to the staff of Magnolia Estates of Elberton who have lovingly cared for Gwen during the last nine years.
