Left to cherish his memory is his son and daughter-in-law, Dwayne and Donna Dye of Hartwell; grandchildren: Daniel and Alison Dye, Megan and Andrew Smith, and Adam and Caitlin Dye; great-grandchildren: Andrew “A.J.” Smith, Nathan Dwayne Dye, and Liam Brooks Smith; siblings: Jackie Dixon of Elberton, Marguerite McCall of Elberton, Tommy Dye of Abbeville, SC, and Kenneth and Ellen Dye of Elberton; sister-in-law, Anne Dye of Elberton; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Mr. Dye was born in Elberton on December 6, 1937, son of the late Harold Floyd Dye, Sr. and Jewell Estelle Childs Dye. He proudly served in the United States Air Force, Strategic Air Command, and was a devoted life-long member of Eliam United Methodist Church.
He was retired from Harmony Blue Granite Company and enjoyed camping with the love of his life, Patricia. He also enjoyed gardening, working in his shop, and serving others through his Christian example by preparing and carrying food to those who were sick, shut-in, or grieving. Harold passionately taught Sunday school, lead and sang in the Eliam Choir, and enjoyed leading Bible study groups.
Because of Harold’s deep love and concern for others, only graveside services will be held to allow those attending to avoid close contact in confined spaces. Those services will be held on Tuesday, August 25, at 11 o’clock at Forest Hills Memorial Park with the Rev. Teresa Lilja and the Rev. Emily Case Whiten officiating and Daniel Dye, Adam Dye, Andrew Smith, Brandon Dye, Ronald Dye, Russell Dye, Eric Dixon, and Joe Adams honored as pallbearers. Friends are encouraged to bring a lawn chair.
Mr. Dye will lie instate at Berry Funeral Home from 1:00-8:00p.m. on Monday, August 24, for those wishing to pay their respects and sign the guestbook.
The family will be at the home of Dwayne and Donna Dye, 6045 Elberton Highway, Dewy Rose.
The family respectfully request, in lieu of flowers, contributions be made in his memory to Eliam United Methodist Church, % Ken Taylor, 1969 Rousey Road, Elberton, GA 30635.
