Inez Vickery Rice

Inez V. Rice, age 89, passed away Sunday, May 29, 2022 while she was surrounded by her loving family.

Inez was born in Hart County to the late Ira Vickery and Lillie Mae Adams Vickery.  She was a longtime member of Harmony Baptist Church then attended Dewey Rose Baptist Church later in life.  Inez was a fierce yet loving matriarch whose home was open to all of the children in their neighborhood.  When she wasn’t in her home cooking or ironing, Inez was found outside in her yard raking leaves or caring for her flowers.  She lived strongly by her husband’s motto, “A well raked or swept yard is the prettiest thing you’ve ever seen.”

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband whom she honored throughout her adult life, Claudie James “Shorty” Rice; and her two children, Stanley Rice and Beth Brown.

Her legacy of life continues on through her five children, Deborah Jefferson (Butch), Randall Rice, Cindy King (Kent), Clay Rice (Dana), and Travis Rice (Kim); brothers and sisters, Carol Moon, Amanda Cantrell (Billy Ray), Ronald Vickery (Trudy), Donald Vickery (Delores), and Joyce Dickerson; thirteen grandchildren; and twelve great grandchildren.

A celebration of Inez’s life took place at 3:00 P.M. on Wednesday, June 1, 2022  in the Chapel of Hicks Funeral Home with Reverend David McConnell officiating.  Interment followed in Harmony Baptist Church cemetery.  Pallbearers were Kevin Rice, Cory Rice, Allen Jefferson, Jacob Elder, Ross King, Justin Dowell, Austin Albertson, and Justin Rice.

The family received friends beginning at 1:30 P.M. Wednesday prior to the service, at the funeral home.
