Jacqueline King Bozeman, age 91, entered her eternal home on Saturday, September 17, 2022.
“Mama Jackie,” as she was called by her grand and great grandchildren, was born and educated in Atlanta schools and obtained a BA degree from Agnes Scott. As a devoted minister’s wife, she shared in her husband’s ministry throughout north Georgia.
Returning to Elberton to retire, the Bozemans were deeply devoted to Elberton First United Methodist Church. Jackie was a classically trained soprano, sang in the Chancel Choir, and was a former director of that group. Additionally, she was a member and well-loved former teacher of the Mary Freeman Sunday School class. As part of that class, she enjoyed blessing the shut-ins of the church through the Sonshine Club.
Jackie loved genealogy and was a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She also enjoyed bird watching and traveling the world with her husband and the Dunwoody Travelers.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Reverend Jack R. Bozeman; parents, Lucille and Jay Leathers; and sister, Mary Ann Leathers.
“Mama Jackie” was a feisty yet loving matriarch who will be remembered for her love of God and love of family.
Left to continue her legacy are her three sons: Eric Bozeman, The Reverend Dr. Kirk Bozeman (Carol), and Grant Bozeman (Teresa); five grandchildren: Holly Johnson (Chris), Katie Moore (Johnny), Jack L. Bozeman, Kristen Small (Josh), and Jennifer Bozeman; and the apples of her eye, her five great grandchildren, Caitlin Johnson, Grant Johnson, Claire Goodman, Annie Moore, and Abigail Small.
A memorial service celebrating her life will take place at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, October 1, 2022 at Elberton First United Methodist Church. Dr. Kirk Bozeman and Pastor Jim McCollough will officiate. Members of the Mary Freeman Sunday School class will be honored with special seating. A private inurnment will be at Elmhurst Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband.
Due to the forthcoming weather, the family will receive friends immediately following the memorial service on Saturday, October 1, 2022. This will take the place of the previously scheduled visitation on Friday, September 30, 2022.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be directed to the Organ and Building Fund at Elberton First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 398, Elberton, Georgia 30635.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to Mama Jackie’s special caregivers, Theo and Barbara.
