Jacquelyn Beryl "Jackie" Dickerson Thompson

Mrs. Jacquelyn Beryl Dickerson Thompson, born at home in Dewy Rose, Georgia on April 17, 1942, went to be with her Lord at home in Elberton, Georgia on July 19, 2026. Affectionately known as Jackie, she was 84 years old.

Coming from a family of twelve siblings, Jackie was a daughter of the late Bodie E. Dickerson and Savannah Estelle “Vanna” Beggs Dickerson. She joins her parents; husband, Lawrence Lamar Thompson; and siblings: Carl Dickerson, Bobby Dickerson, Ed Dickerson, Margaret Jordan, Lavonia Turner, Opal Dickerson, and Mary Ann Jones, in Heaven.

Jackie was a graduate of Elberton High School. She caught the eye of Lawrence Lamar Thompson while he was working at the Elbert Theatre where he enjoyed throwing popcorn at moviegoers. He told his friends, “I’m going to get a date with that girl!” Fate would have it that the two would be introduced to one another during a blind date, and they were happily married on May 29, 1959. Lamar and Jackie enjoyed 63 years of marriage, and were blessed with three daughters: Melanie, Angela, and Lori.

She worked in various jobs to support her family. Jackie is most remembered as her time as a cashier, working at Colonial Grocery Store in Elberton, Bell’s Grocery Store in Hartwell, and Ingles in Elberton, from which she retired. She enjoyed working in her yards, cultivating many beautiful flowers. Jackie enjoyed putting together puzzles, playing card games with her family, and listening to Christian music. She was an avid fan of the Atlanta Braves and Elbert County Blue Devils. 

Her faith was the cornerstone of her life. She read and studied her bible daily. Jackie was a member of Victory Baptist Church and loved her church family dearly. 

Surviving are her three daughters: Melanie Thompson, Angela and Jonathan Rice, and Lori Thompson, all of Elberton; siblings: Anna Turner, Miriam Stephens, Nita Nash, and Sammy and Gail Dickerson; grandchildren: Scottie and Jana Schultz, Tiffany Shultz, Jennifer and Neal Montgomery, Katie and Alex Acker, and Savannah and Walker Williams; six great-grandchildren and one of the way; five great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 22, from 10:00a.m. until 10:45a.m. at Berry Funeral Home. Funeral services, officiated by the Revs. Sean Baughman and Scottie Schultz, will follow at 11:00a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Burial will be in Forest Hills Memorial Park.
