James Robert Duke

Mr. James Robert Duke, passed away peacefully on March 20, 2024, in Augusta, GA. Born on June 8, 1941, in Elberton, GA, James was a man whose life was characterized by his loving nature, his handy skills, and his adventurous spirit.

James was predeceased by his beloved partner of over 40 years, Aiko Goss, with whom he shared a life full of love. He was the son of the late J.C. Duke and Alma Frances Morgan. The Duke family mourns the loss of James, as well as his son Tony Duke, his brothers Perry and Paul Duke, and his sister Patricia Troyer, who all preceded him in death.

He is survived by his son Randy Duke; his daughters Susan Holbrook, Sharon Kimsey, Brandy Hancock, and Jamie Duke; his sister Sue Barnwell; seventeen grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren.

James was a man of many talents and a strong work ethic. He earned an associate's degree that paved the way for a successful career in construction. His hands built more than just structures; they built a legacy. As a commercial project superintendent, he oversaw the construction of K-Marts, Walmarts, and other commercial buildings.

Beyond his professional achievements, James was a man who loved spending time with his family above all else. Fishing and dredging for gold were other passions of James. He found peace and solace in the quiet moments by the water, rod in hand, waiting for the next catch and looking for that piece of gold.

As we bid farewell to Mr. James Robert Duke, we celebrate a life well-lived and a man well-loved. His memory will continue to inspire those who knew him, and his legacy will live on in the hearts of his family and the many lives he touched.

His Graveside Service will be held at Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens, Thomson, Georgia on Tuesday, April 02, 2024, at 11:00 A.M. The family will receive friends at the graveside following the service.
