Mr. Jimmy Mercer, 78, of Highland Drive, Elberton, husband of 56 years to Mary Bundrick Mercer, passed away on Friday, September 12, 2025, at his residence.
James Wacco Mercer was born in Elbert County on October 25, 1946, the youngest of four boys born to George Alton Mercer and Ruth Cornelia Aderholt Mercer. He was a 1965 graduate of Elbert County High School. He grew up in the Thirteen Forks Community and was a lifelong member of Concord United Methodist Church. Jimmy began his working career at Anderson Mills before beginning his long time career in the upholstery business. He retired in 2025 as the owner/operator of Mercer Trim and Upholstery.
Jimmy was a dedicated member of Philomathea Masonic Lodge #25, where he served as Past Master. He was Past Excellent High Priest of Oliver Chapter 23, and Past Illustrious Master.
Jimmy was an avid outdoorsman. He spent many hours on the lake fishing. Jimmy looked forward to any events being held at the “Mercer Huntin’ Lodge”, especially the annual Turkey Shoot, when friends and family alike would come together to fellowship.
Surviving, in addition to his wife Mary, are his children: Britley Baston and her husband Bobby of Elberton and Craig Mercer of Elberton; grandchildren: Sydney Lee Baston and Emmie Marie Baston; brother, Gerald Mercer and his wife Peggy of Elberton; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers: George Robert “Rabbit” Mercer and Doug Mercer.
The family is at the residence and will receive friends on Monday, September 15, from 12:00-1:30p.m. at Berry Funeral Home. Funeral services, officiated by the Rev. Bobby Baston, will follow at 2:00p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Burial, with Masonic Rites, will follow in Forest Hills Memorial Park. Pallbearers are Brock Boyd, John Jenkins, Brad Burton, Blake Burton, Kris Mercer, and Paul Albertson.
