James Wendell Rousey

Mr. James 'Wendell' Rousey, 76, of Delhi Road, Tignall, passed away on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at his son's residence in Carlton.

Wendell was born in Washington on January 11, 1950, and was a graduate of Wilkes County High School. He was a talented diesel mechanic who had worked at Turner Concrete, Inc. for the last 33 years. An avid outdoorsman, Wendell loved hunting and fishing, and never missed a chance to attend a drag race. Above all, his children and grandchildren were his pride and joy.

He is preceded in death by his parents, James Ellis Rousey and Myrtle Inez O’Neal Rousey; and brother, Charles Edward Rousey.

Wendell is survived by his children: Julie (Jack) Williams of Bowman, James ‘Ashley’ Rousey of Bowman, Robbie (Amanda) Rousey of Commerce, and Brian (Danielle) Rousey of Carlton; sister, Clara Bell Tate of Tignall; grandchildren: Lane, Emma, Ashton, Brooklyn, Carter, Kennedy, and Reagan; great-children: Oaklynn and Kinsley; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives. 

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 11, from 6:00p.m. until 8:00p.m. at Berry Funeral Home.

Funeral services celebrating Wendell’s life will be conducted on Wednesday, August 12, at 11:00a.m. in the Memorial Chapel of Berry Funeral Home with the Rev. Roy Cates officiating. Interment will follow in the Tabor Baptist Church cemetery with David Tate, Carter Rousey, Stephen Banks, Mike Harrison, Dylan Canter, and Tyson Pianco honored as pallbearers.

During other times, the family is at the residence of Brian and Danielle Rousey, 154 Smokey Hollow Road in the Veribest Community of Carlton.
