Mr. James 'Glenn' Smith, 60, of Clover Avenue, Comer, husband of Judith Leigh "Julie" King Smith, passed way on Monday, April 8, 2024, at Piedmont Athens Regional Hospital. 

Glenn was born in Atlanta on October 5, 1963, son of the late James Ralph Smith, Jr. and Laura Lee Laird. He joined the U.S. Army two weeks prior to what should have been his high school graduation, and never looked back. Glenn proudly served his country in the military for six years. Prior to becoming disabled, he worked as a truck driver for Blue Circle Cement Company and had previously worked in security detail.

Glenn was an avid outdoors man who enjoyed hunting and fishing, football, and was NASCAR and Bill Elliott's biggest fan. However, his greatest love was his family. His three grandchildren were his world, and he loved being their "PopPop".

Surviving are his wife, Julie, to whom he was married on May 14, 1994; children: Laura Smith of Comer, Christina Smith and fiance` Patrick Bennett of Comer, and David Glenn Smith who is stationed at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma Army Base; grandchildren: Braylon Bennett, Victoria Bennett, and Ryleigh Bennett; and siblings: Johnny Steele, Michael Steele, and Donald Leroy Smith. 

Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his siblings: Butch Steele and Sara Gail Clack. 

The family will host a memorial service on Friday, April 12, at 3:00p.m. at Comer Baptist Church with the Rev. Rudy Camp officiating. There will be no formal visitation; however, friends may visit the family at their residence, 455 Clover Avenue, Comer.
