James Walker Smith, Sr.

James Walker Smith, Sr.

James “Walker” Smith, Sr., 91, Thomson, Georgia, entered into eternal rest on May 7, 2024.

He was born in Warrenton, Georgia on March 16, 1933, spent his early years in Warrenton, Georgia and moved to Thomson when his mother went to work at Thomson Company.  Our family moved back to Thomson after his retirement from serving our Country 20 years in the U.S. Airforce, which would have been in 1971.  Walker enjoyed being outside working in his yard or around the house, taking his wife shopping and many times helping her babysit their many grandkids. Walker was Baptist by faith and a member of Sweetwater Baptist Church.

Walker is preceded in death by his wife, Fay Parrish Smith; his mother Ida Sue Smith; his son, James Walker Smith, Jr.; his daughter-in-law, Debbie Smith; great granddaughter, Riverlyn Kensley Adams; brothers, “Billy” Thomas A. Smith and Norton Smith, Jr. and sister, Helen Smith Gray.  

His survivors include his son, Jeff Smith of Elberton, Georgia; his daughter, Dani McDaniel (Tracy) of Appling, Georgia and daughter-in-law, Marsha P. Smith of Thomson, Georgia; his grandchildren; Brynn McDaniel Mills (Zach), Bryce McDaniel (Samantha), Tiffany Smith Franks (Jason), Stephanie Smith Bonick (Nathan), Brittany Smith Brooks (Mike), Allen Smith (Jessica), Chad Smith (Katie), Brent Smith (Kelly), Jade Smith, Crystal Smith Fleming (Bo) and twenty-three great grandchildren and two great, great grandchildren.

His funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on May 10, 2024 at Beggs Funeral Home, 799 Cobbham Road, Thomson, Georgia 30824, with Bro. Tracy McDaniel officiating.  Pallbearers for the service are Bryce McDaniel, Jason Franks, Mike Brooks, Nathan Bonick, Zach Mills, Chad Smith, Allen Smith and Brent Smith. The Interment will follow in Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens.  The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. prior to the service at Beggs Funeral Home.
