Jane S. Norman

Jane Smith Norman, age 83, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully Sunday, September 18, 2022 while she was surrounded by her loving family.  Jane was born on July 21, 1939 in Elberton to the late Ferman D. Smith and Frances Yates Smith.  She attended Elberton High School and graduated in 1957.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Ferman D. Smith, Jr.

Jane was an active and devoted member of Elberton First United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Senior Adult Ministry; and she was class treasurer for the Mary Freeman Sunday School class for more than 40 years.  She was also a member of the Friendship Club, and served as a treasurer and board member of the Elberton Historical Society.  Jane was a member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority for 60 years with perfect attendance for the last 50.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Jack Norman; daughter, Kim Simmons; son and daughter in law, Doug and Patty Norman; sister, Nancy Madden; grandchildren, Crystal Dye, Morgan Simmons, Bryson Norman (Haley), and Caleb Norman; great grandchildren, Madison, Lawton, and Elizabeth Dye, and Rayleigh Ayers; and brothers in law, Donald Norman and Ronald Norman (Pam).

The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 P.M. Tuesday at Hicks Funeral Home.

A service of Death and Resurrection will take place at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, September 21, 2022 at her beloved Elberton First United Methodist Church.  Pastor Jim McCollough, Wallace Wheelis, and Kevin Madden will officiate.  The Mary Freeman Sunday School class will sit as a group.  Interment will follow at Elmhurst Cemetery.  

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be directed to the Organ and Building Fund at Elberton First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 398, Elberton, Georgia 30635.
