John Carlisle Bellamy, Jr. passed away at his home on August 2, 2026, surrounded by his family. He was born in Atlanta, Georgia, to John Carlisle Bellamy, Sr. and Shirley Malloy Bellamy. The second of six children, he grew up in a lively, active family that shaped his outgoing personality, tremendous sense of humor, and beautiful bass singing voice. To his family and friends, he was simply "Bubba."
John attended Garden Hills Elementary School before crossing the street to North Fulton High School. At just 16 years old, he proudly earned the rank of Eagle Scout, following in his father’s footsteps. At North Fulton, John played on the football team and was a proud member of the 1966 Georgia State AA Championship team. He was also privileged to be part of the NFHS Special Choir and was selected to be part of the 1969 World Tour ensemble. The choir traveled around the globe, visiting nine countries in 31 days - an experience he treasured for the rest of his life. John later graduated from the University of Georgia, where his lifelong love for the Georgia Bulldogs only grew stronger. John loved his family, golf, and oh, how he loved the Dawgs!
John was preceded in death by his parents, John and Shirley; his brother, Rusty (Russell Lloyd Bellamy); and his wife, Nita.
He is survived by his sisters, Beckie (Harry) Butler, Debbie Bellamy, Nancy (Buddy) Yeomans, and Judy (Butch) Harrell; his daughters, Katherine Bellamy, Julia (Vincent) Lee, and Margaret Bellamy (Yamal Narvaez); his grandchildren, Kenny (Lawson) Lewis, Alexandra (Tyler) Ramsey, Trevor Dudley, Reece Sudberry, Evan Lee, Olivia Lee, and Diego Narvaez Bellamy; four great-grandchildren; dozens of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. John’s family will gather privately to celebrate his life. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society in John’s memory.
