John George Kirkdoffer

John George “Dobber” Kirkdoffer, age 73, passed away Tuesday, October 17, 2023 at his residence following an extended illness.

John was born in West Memphis, Arkansas where everyone was called by their first name along with their middle name. He later moved to the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains where he spent more than 20 years with the Fannin County Road Department.  And where he obtained the nickname, “Dirt Dobber,” or “Dobber” for short.

John enjoyed camping and traveling near and far alongside his loving wife; showing his prize goats; and putting his golf clubs to task on a beautiful green.  When he wasn’t enjoying the great outdoors, John loved old cars, fast cars (Nascar), and the Georgia Bulldogs.

More than anything, though, John loved the Lord and he loved his wife.  He was an excited member of the new Grace United Methodist Church.  A devout Christian, John honored God by loving his bride as Christ loved the Church.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Tillman William Kirkdoffer and Fannie Mae Marshall Kirkdoffer; and brothers and sister, Roy Dean Kirkdoffer, Charles Edward Kirkdoffer, and Mary Lynn Goe.

He is survived by his traveling companion and wife of 27 ½ years, Kellie Foster Kirkdoffer; and brothers and sisters, Walter Owen Kirkdoffer (Elizabeth), Brenda Mae Melton (Fred), T.W. Kirkdoffer (Linda Faye), and Linda Sue Powell (Ivey.)  Last, but certainly not least, are his faithful four legged companions, Taffy, Flame, and Samantha.

A celebration of John’s life will take place at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, October 21, 2023 at Grace United Methodist Church, (St. Alban’s Episcopal Church,) 109 Brookside Drive, Elberton with John’s dear friend, Reverend Jim McCollough officiating.

An additional service is planned at 4:30 P.M., Tuesday, October 24, 2023 at Coosa United Methodist Church in Blairsville where John and Kellie were married.

A private burial will take place in the Coosa UMC cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Grace United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 956, Elberton, Georgia 30635.
