Mrs. Julia Smith Dixon, of Elberton, Georgia passed away at the age of 102 on Thursday, August 12, 2021 at her home. Mrs. Dixon was born in Elberton, daughter of the late John Duncan Smith and Elizabeth Thornton Smith.She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of almost 54 years, Henry Howard Dixon, in 1989.Mrs. Julia worked in the textile industry throughout her life, and also with the Elbert Co. Recreation Department. She was an avid Braves fan, and was sent a very special televised birthday greeting by former Braves player and announcer, Jeff Francoeur, on her 101st birthday.She loved her Elbert Co. Blue Devils basketball players, and could always be counted on to be at the games.Mrs. Julia enjoyed canning, and was well-known for cooking and sharing many meals with people she loved and cared for.She was a faithful and devoted member of Falling Creek Baptist Church.She loved her family dearly and was loved so much by all who knew her. Mrs. Julia is survived by her children: Jimmie Bell, George Dixon, Oscar Dixon and wife Susie, and Cyndie Blanford; and a daughter-in-law, Judy Dixon.She also leaves behind 13 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Dixon was also preceded in death by a son, Neal Dixon, a granddaughter, Leslie Brown, a son-in-law, Pete Bell, a daughter-in-law, Rebecca Dixon, two brothers, James Smith and George Duncan Smith,and two sisters, Evelyn Childs Starke and Margaret Nash. A service to celebrate Mrs. Dixon’s beautiful life was held on Saturday, August 14, 2021 at 4:00 p.m. at Falling Creek Baptist Church, with Rev. Ric Veal and Rev. Dwight Morgan officiating.A time of visitation for family and friends was held on Friday evening, August 13, 2021 at Hicks Funeral Home from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.Interment was in the Falling Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with Brian Blanford, Brandon Blanford, Farren Dixon, Leon Smith, Drew Bell, Phillip Bell, Darren Driver, and Randall Ruff serving as pallbearers. Memorial contributions may be made to Falling Creek Baptist Church, 1020 McVeigh Dr., Elberton, GA 30635. Arrangements for Mrs. Julia Smith Dixon were in the care of Hicks Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Elberton.
