Mrs. Julia Louise Dixon Herndon Erwin, age 91, of Drake Road, Elberton, wife of 33 years to Robert Edward "Bob" Erwin, passed away on Thursday, July 6, 2023, at Nancy Hart Nursing Center.

Julia was born in Elberton on April 19, 1932, daughter of the late Dewitt Clinton "DC" Dixon and Hazel Trippe Dixon. She was a self employed saleslady, having sold insurance and mattresses. Julia enjoyed making cakes, attending craft shows, and sewing. Known by many as "Mama J", she will be remembered for her weekly social events column, "This & That", that was published in The Elberton Star. Julia and Bob looked forward to hosting the Flatwoods Community Easter Egg Hunt each year for many years at their home. She was a very social person who enjoyed playing BINGO and was proud to have been named President of the Resident Counsil at Nancy Hart Nursing Center. Julia was a member of Woodlawn Methodist Church where she and Bob were very active as long as their health permitted.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her first husband, William Jackson Herndon, Sr.; sons: William Jackson Herndon, Jr. and James Henry Herndon; great-grandson, Chance Lonergan; and brother and sister-in-law, James Albert and Evelyn Dixon.

Surviving, in addition to her husband Bob, are step-children: Mike Erwin and his wife Cindy of Elberton, Debbie Erwin Ray of Elberton, and Robin Erwin Milburn and her husband Lynn of Comanche, OK; granddaughter, Kelly Herndon Lonergan of Harlem; great-grandson, Jackson Lonergan; step-grandchildren: Chuck Jordan, Ramon Rey, Adam Erwin, Shane Erwin, Levi Major, Rod Major, Bear Major, Chasity Sitton, Dennis Milburn, and Derek Milburn; several step-great-grandchildren; her niece, Amy Dixon Yellott and husband Dan; nephew, Jim Dixon and his wife Shan; three special cousins: Annette Trippe, Vanessa Lee, and Mary Toney; and a host of other relatives and friends.

The family is at their respective homes and will receive friends on Monday, July 10, from 3:00-3:45p.m. at Berry Funeral Home. Funeral services celebrating her life will follow at 4:00p.m. in the Memorial Chapel of Berry Funeral Home with Pastor Donald Trippe officiating. Interment will follow in Fortsonia Community Cemetery.
