Mrs. Kathleen Dorothy "Kathy" Stocum Dean, 76, of Elberton, wife of the late Ronnie Robert Dean, passed away on Thursday, February 19, 2026, at Comer Health & Rehab, following a brief but courageous battle with cancer.
Born on February 1, 1950, in Rochester, New York, she was the embodiment of kindness and warmth, never meeting a stranger, always greeting the world with a radiant smile and an open heart.
Early in life, Kathy worked in the medical field, where she served diligently as a certified nursing assistant and later worked as a veterinary technician. Her compassionate spirit drew her to help others, demonstrating her dedication through her work. Later, she shared her talents and knowledge at Home Depot in Commerce, inspiring countless customers. After retirement, she embraced her most cherished role of all—being a stay-at-home grandmother.
Motherhood was a central part of Kathy's identity. She poured her love into her sons, Ronnie Dean II of Athens, Georgia, and Andy Dean (Morgan Simmons) of Elberton, Georgia, supporting them in all of their endeavors. Kathy's love only multiplied when her grandchildren entered her life: Chastayne, Syrena, Meadow, Andrew, and Dallas were the pride and joy of her life. “Grandma” was always their biggest supporter, attending as many of their events as she could, and always cheering them on. Kathy’s later years were enriched by her faithful four-legged companion, her kitty Misha.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth Robert Stocum and Helen Walker Stocum; husband, Ronnie Robert Dean; granddaughter, Meadow Dean; and siblings: Kenny Stocum and Linda Studer.
Beyond her roles as a mother and grandmother, Kathy embraced life through her hobbies and interests. In her younger years, she found joy playing softball and horseback riding. She remained an ardent supporter of Elbert County Sports, especially softball and basketball. Kathy was a member of Franklin County Church of Christ and enjoyed fellowshipping with her church family. Her big, warm, and legendary “Miss Kathy” hugs will never be forgotten.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 28, from 1:00p.m. until 1:45p.m. at Berry Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 2:00p.m. in the funeral home chapel.
Flowers are accepted, and if desired, contributions may be made in her memory to the Elbert County Humane Society, Post Office Box 267, Elberton, Georgia 30635.
Those wishing may sign the online guestbook at berryfh.com.
