Mrs. Kathryn Johnson Smith, 94, of Elberton, GA passed away peacefully in her sleep at home with her daughter, Andrea, by her side on Tuesday, July 14, 2026. She was born in Abbeville, SC on October 29, 1931, a daughter of the late Donnie Paul Johnson and Icie Mae Madden Johnson.

She married the love of her life, Marvin Eugene Smith, and had three children: Michael, Kathy, and Andrea. Ms. Kathryn was a beautician at Granite City Beauty Salon for 46 years. She loved each and every one of her clients and would style her first head of hair at 6 o’clock in the morning. When she was not at work, you could find Kathryn in her kitchen. She loved to cook for her family and friends, especially at Christmas time when she would have Mr. Marvin deliver her boxes of Christmas goodies to them. Kathryn was a member of Eliam United Methodist Church.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Marvin; son, Michael; daughter, Kathy; brother, Melvin; and two sisters: Collis and Andrena.

She is survived by her daughter, Andrea, of Cleveland; two sisters: Joan Walton of Elberton and Joyce Gettys of Fountain Inn, SC; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Wayne and Maxine Smith of Elberton; give grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; five nieces; and one nephew.

Kathryn will lie instate on Thursday, July 16, 2026, from 10:00a.m. until 4:00p.m. at Berry Funeral Home for those wishing to pay their respects and sign the guestbook. She will be laid to rest the following day alongside her husband and daughter at Forest Hills Memorial Park.

The family has chosen to have no formal service. A gathering will be held at a later date when all members can be present for a celebration of life in Ms. Kathryn’s kitchen.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions in Kathryn’s memory be made to Bristol Hospice, 2053 Experiment Station Road, Building 500, Watkinsville, GA 30677.
