LTC Louis Beri, Ret., ARNG

LTC Louis D. Beri, Ret., ARNG, 85, was met by his loving wife at the gates of Heaven on Monday, October 31, 2022- on what would have been their 63rd wedding anniversary.

Louis lived a life of serving others.  Over a span of 42 years, he proudly served our country through the Naval Reserve, the United States Air Force, and Army Reserve National Guard where he was Headquarter Battery Commander of 1-214 Field Artillery.  Dedicated to his soldiers rather than advancing his own career, Louis often sacrificed promotions to remain in positions where he was needed.  Louis’ solemn and dignified temperament gained him immeasurable respect by those he served with as well as in our community.  He gave countless hours to the youth of Elbert County as a little league coach at the old little league ballfield. He played adult league softball and also was a girls softball coach.  Due to his reputation as a mentor to the county’s youth and his reputation as a shape carver and custom sandblaster, Louis attended the University of Georgia to receive his teaching credentials and was asked to become the first granite lab instructor at Elbert County High School.

Above anything else, Louis was dedicated in his service to the Lord. He was a longtime member of Francis Asbury United Methodist Church.  There, he assisted with teaching the Cora Harris Sunday School class, served on the board, and was a certified lay speaker. He loved to be involved in missionary work and he never missed an opportunity to serve others.

When Louis did find time for himself, he could usually be found on a golf course or with his line in the water.  And despite his stoic demeanor, Louis will also be remembered for his light sense of humor.

A saying that Louis would always say when someone was about to leave was “Give my love to everyone.” Said with smile and given with a hug.

Louis was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Betty Beri, his parents, a brother, a nephew, three grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

Louis is survived by his children:  Michael Beri and wife, Dana, of Elberton, Patrick Beri and wife, Angela, of Charleston, TN, and Linda Beri Woodard of Elberton, GA.  He also leaves behind 12 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and other extended family members.

A celebration of Louis' life and service to his country and church will take place at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, November 5, 2022 at Francis Asbury United Methodist Church.  Pastor Tim Savelle will officiate.  Interment will follow in Forest Hills Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
